For many, watches are considered to be a fashion statement that lets the world know more about their sense of style and personality. It is not surprising that watches come in different shapes, sizes, and forms. The kind of features integrated within it varies greatly as well. But lest we go further into the type of features available in timepieces these days, let’s start out with one of the most visible component of a watch: the strap.
The type of watch straps used for the timepiece usually provides a clear indication of the purpose of the watch. Dressier straps are reserved for formal occasions while rubber is preferred for sports watch. It is always best to pick a timepiece that makes use of perfect combinations. For example, stainless steel usually goes well with titanium. The result is a more durable and versatile product that can accompany you to different functions throughout the day.
Leather
Leather remains a favorite among men and women because of its comfort, simplicity, and look. It is a timeless material that is used throughout history for many kinds of accessories. While a lot of substitute materials abound today, a lot of elegant personalities still choose leather as their material of choice. There is a wide range of leather designs.
The staple black and brown color can have stylish stitching to make it look more appealing to the younger crowd. Leather can also be colored white, pink, or orange depending on the preference of the wearer. Some people use ostrich and calfskin as well because it is very comfortable against the wrist.
Ceramic
Ceramics are not commonly associated with watches because it is seen to be easily breakable. But this is not actually the case, depending on how it is made. Ceramic watch straps look a lot like stainless steel straps except that it can resist damage better. It is also more lightweight and less irritable to the skin, especially when a person perspires. For all these reasons, a lot of watch manufacturers are increasingly looking into ceramic as a viable option.
Heavy Duty (Military)
Military bands are usually made from rubber/synthetic materials or the NATO nylon straps worn by the army, navy, and officers. The rubber/synthetic bands are waterproof so it can be worn in different weather conditions. Meanwhile, the NATO strap will not rot from moisture. Leather is also used in some instance but usually not for active duty.
Titanium
This list would not be complete without including titanium. Luxury sports watches, dive watches, and even fashion watches are now crafted from this very durable material. It is completely impenetrable by water so it is perfect for divers and extreme-sports enthusiasts. And although it can scratch, it is 50% stronger than stainless steel. Another notable feature is that titanium does not rust.
